I have been asked about the sizes of our lunchboxes. We currently have 2 bento style boxes, the Yumbox and the Goodbyn. I like them both for separate reasons.
Goodbyn (10.5 x 6.5 x 2.5)
Pros:
- 3 large compartments (the biggest compartment holds 2.1 cups, the middle compartment holds 2 cups, and the smallest compartment holds I believe 1 cup)
- Plenty of room for 1/2 sandwich. With the deeper box, a sandwich will easily fit in here.
- Can create a happy, healthy lunch easily!
Cons:
- Not leakproof. I haven't tried applesauce or yogurt yet, but I did put water in the Goodbyn and turned it sideways. The water did leak out, but it wasn't a huge leak.
- This is a rather large box and it won't fit inside smaller sized lunch boxes.
Here is the Goodbyn box inside my daughter's lunchbox. I bought her the bigger kid size lunchbox and I'm glad I did. You can tell that the Goodbyn pushes out the sides of the lunchbox. |

Yumbox (8 x 6 x 2)
Pros:
- 5 bigger compartments and 1 small compartment for dips/treats. Each bigger compartment holds 1/2 cup of food.
- Leakproof - I love the silicone seal that goes around each compartment. This keeps yogurts, applesauces, etc from leaking into the other sections.
- It has small pictures on the bottom of each compartment. These pictures motivate me to send protein, grains, dairy, fruits and veggies in each meal. I feel kind of bad when I put fruit in the veggie compartment, etc.
- Very easy to pack a happy, healthy lunch.
Cons:
- The compartments aren't really that big and it is harder to pack a sandwich in this box. There's still plenty of room to pack a healthy lunch though.
The Yumbox fits into my daughter's preschool lunchbox...barely. It fits, but wasn't that easy to take it out. I'd suggest a bigger lunch box, even for the Yumbox, but it is smaller than the Goodbyn. |
Here are a few comparison pictures of the different lunch boxes. The bigger lunch box contains the Goodbyn box, while the smaller ladybug bag contains the Yumbox.
I hope this page will help you choose the box that's right for you and your child!
